The San Rafael en Corto short film showcase is a commitment to the creation and promotion of Canarian cinema, established as the longest-running screening space in the archipelago for directors and actors from the Canary Islands.
Beyond the screenings, Gran Angular runs educational activities (workshops on scriptwriting, acting, film make-up and soundtrack composition) through the Cine con Clase programme.
Desde 2005, Gran Angular ha celebrado 21 ediciones ininterrumpidas. La 22ª edición tendrá lugar del 7 to 13 November 2026 en el Teatro Municipal Víctor Jara, Vecindario, con el lema "Cine y No a la guerra".
Why are there no prizes?
Because the goal is not to award the best works. The goal is to promote cinema made in the Canary Islands and to let films that don't win competitions be screened before an audience.
Short films are a school for those who direct, act and write. San Rafael en Corto lets those who are learning screen their work, regardless of its quality or the resources behind it.
The only exception is the Audience Award "Distribución Domingo Socorro", granting one year of free distribution across the Canarian network to the film most voted by the audience.
Four commitments
to Canarian cinema.

Divulgar y promocionar el cine hecho en Canarias.
Dar visibilidad a la producción audiovisual del archipiélago, dentro y fuera de él.

Permitir que las obras lleguen al público.
Abrir un circuito de exhibición para obras creadas en Canarias o por canarios en el exterior que, de otro modo, rara vez accederían a una sala.

Educar, concienciar, denunciar.
Programar cine con contenido social —migraciones, derechos humanos, memoria, ecología— para que la pantalla se convierta en un lugar de reflexión colectiva.

Formar a quienes empiezan.
Servir de espacio formativo para iniciarse en la creación cinematográfica, con talleres de guión, interpretación, maquillaje y banda sonora.
